Gamba Osaka still top the J-League from last year's champions Urawa Reds. Gamba beat Reysol 2-1 at home, while Reds overcame Grampus away by the same score.

Ardija and new coach Robert Verbeek had something to celebrate as a late goal secured a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Yokohama FC. Ardija remain just above Yokohama but stay in touch JEF and Trinita just above them.

In J2, Consadole still lead from the chasing pack of Montedio, Vegalta and Sanga.
