LFC marks 20 years since remarkable treble-winning season in new documentary

Liverpool FC is launching a new documentary to transport supporters back to a historic campaign that saw the club bring home the UEFA Cup, the League Cup and the FA Cup. 'One Week in May: The Story of a Unique Treble' airs at 7.30pm UK time on Sunday May 16, the anniversary of the club's thrilling UEFA Cup final victory over Alaves in Dortmund.

A special thank you goes to the club's Forever Reds group of former players, who contributed to the documentary.

Heroes like Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Gary McAllister join former teammates, staff and supporters as they cast their minds back to this special time. It was a season in which Gerard Houllier’s Reds played 63 games and scored 127 goals. They became the first English side to win three cup competitions in a single campaign and secured an all-important Champions League spot on the final day.

For supporters, it was a time where they could hold their heads high as they journeyed across Europe in search of silverware, where they could dance with joy in the stands as their team completed league doubles over Everton and Manchester United for the first time in decades. And then, during one breathless week in mid-May, they watched Liverpool FC edge two cup finals, before returning to Europe’s top table for the first time in 16 seasons.

Throughout the documentary, fans can see Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Danny Murphy reflect on a precious period of their career, joined by the likes of Didi Hamann, Markus Babbel, Sami Hyypia and Sander Westerveld. Assistant boss Phil Thompson speaks with pride at how Houllier and his staff kept their players hungry for more while navigating a tough fixture list. And Houllier's contemporary, Sir Alex Ferguson, looks back on the Frenchman’s presence and ideals, as well as the battles he savoured against the Reds.

One Week in May: The Story of a Unique Treble, premieres on LFCTV at 7.30 pm UK time on Sunday May 16 and will be repeated again at 10.30 pm, it will be available to watch at the same time on LFCTV GO.
