Barcelona took the lead in the 28th minute through Pedri, who fired into the top corner after a setup by 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. Real Madrid responded in the second half, with Kylian Mbappé equalising from a free-kick in the 70th minute, followed by Aurélien Tchouaméni's header seven minutes later to put Madrid ahead. However, Ferran Torres levelled the score in the 84th minute, sending the match into extra time.
In extra time, Jules Koundé capitalised on a loose pass from Luka Modrić in the 116th minute, drilling a long-range shot past Thibaut Courtois to secure the win for Barcelona.
The match was marred by disciplinary issues for Real Madrid, with three players - Antonio Rüdiger, Lucas Vázquez, and Jude Bellingham - receiving red cards for misconduct during and after the game. Rüdiger, already substituted, was sent off for throwing an object towards the referee; Vázquez was dismissed for aggressive protests; and Bellingham was shown red after the final whistle for confronting the referee.

The win marks the first major trophy under Barcelona's coach Hansi Flick, who has now won all seven finals he has managed. Barcelona continues their pursuit of a quadruple this season, with upcoming fixtures including a Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan. As for Real coach Carlo Ancelotti, it is widely expected he will leave at the end of the domestic season to take up the position as coach to the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup.
